Hello, let me introduce myself: My name is Jak, I have played golf for over 30 years.
- As a junior I represented my country, England. I was the Captain of Warwickshire County and I Won two international titles.
- As an amateur I played for Warwickshire County before I turned Professional.
- As a Professional my 3 most notable wins were: The Midlands Tour Championship, The Midlands Professionals Championship and The Staffordshire Open.
Since 2016 all my golfing experience has been used to help other players reach their goals as their coach / mentor. Just two years into my new full-time career here’s the biggest thing I’ve learned.
PEOPLE ASSUME THE BEST GOLFERS DON’T HAVE THE EMOTIONS THEY HAVE. THEY ASSUME THEIR EMOTIONS AND THOUGHTS ARE HOLDING THEM BACK.
And they will. If they let them. I hear things like:
- “I have really bad 1 st tee jitters”
- “I get so nervous when people are watching”
- “I always miss short putts under pressure”
- “If I could just break 100 I would have the confidence to play with other people”
LET ME SHED SOME LIGHT ON THESE TYPES OF MATTERS. LET ME TELL YOU THE TRUTH:
The best players in the world get anxious. Have you seen the guys on the 1 st tee in The Ryder Cup? The best players in the world get fearful, these golfers have worked all their lives to achieve their dreams, do you really think when they have a chance of winning a Major, they are not afraid of losing all they have worked for?
Please don’t just read this and think “Oh that was interesting.”
(I at least hope you find it interesting).
Grasp this truth and hold onto it tightly: FEAR AND ANXIETY ARE PART OF THE GAME!!!
The sooner you learn to accept this, the sooner you will be on your path to your lowest ever scores.
NOTE:
I record my accomplishments at the top of this article not to boast, but as evidence of experience in
what I’m talking about.
Be afraid, be fearful, embrace your emotions and give it a go anyway.
